![]() ![]() ![]() It was just about packed on a Tuesday evening, and we certainly can see why it’s so popular. In fact, that pacing was really impressive and made a meal like this even more fun. Our waitperson was a great guide to the menu, and the pacing of the delivery of our orders was spot on. The Triangle spots winning the Award of Excellence include 42nd St. The same might be said for the pork belly tapas we DID order…it was good but there are better pork belly offerings out there.īarcelona is a VERY hip place…quite lively and a little loud. This gratis dish was good, but probably not something we’d order again. We ordered pork belly tapas, but since we didn’t know what the dish would look like, we didn’t know that the next dish we received was a mis-delivered order of pork loin skewers. In fact, before we’d ordered ANYTHING, a server had tried to give us a plate of food belonging to another table. A recurring “thing” was seeing servers looking around for someone to deliver food to. The people serving the food were not the waitpeople. We benefited from one thing we had noticed shortly after we were seated. However, that same crispiness put off one TAD-er.ĮVERYONE appreciated the “gambas al Ajillo”…shrimp in a puddle of flavored olive oil that was a little unusual and delicious. Mixed reactions to the patatas bravas…most thought they were as good as Mateo (or better), especially enjoying the extra-crispiness of the potatoes. It was good, but certainly wasn’t up to the standard for tenderness set by Mateo. We also ordered Barcelona’s fried calamari, since we’ve had it so many places. One TAD-er thought it might have been her favorite order of the evening, but that was a minority opinion. The ham and manchego croquetas were served piping hot and incredibly crispy. It was a good choice, though outshone by some we’ve had before, most recently at Mateo . Given our experience with (and love for) savory stuffed dates, our next order was Barcelona’s bacon-wrapped, goat cheese-stuffed version. This was served with a hot-out-of-the-oven bread. We selected a mild cheese (mahon) marinated in a parsley-infused olive oil (tasty!), manchego, chorizo (an especially good one…not too greasy or spicy) and serrano ham (a VERY generous portion). TAD often chooses a charcuterie (and cheese) board when the options looks especially well chosen, as is the case with Barcelona. ![]()
